  • Anesthesia is needed more often than you think!

If your pet needs professional treatment, "Amis" veterinary clinic is ready to provide help, including treatment methods that also require the use of anesthesia, HOWEVER, the owner of the animal MUST GIVE THEIR CONSENT (“Consent to anesthesia”.). Understandably, the mere mention of anesthesia can raise questions and concerns, so let's explore why, when and how we use it in our veterinary practice. WHEN and WHY is anesthesia necessary? Pet anesthesia is a critical aspect of our ability to provide top-notch care. It facilitates various procedures that contribute to the overall health and comfort of your pet. Help for pets is provided using only modern equipment and proven methodologies. In most cases, the veterinarian performs an ultrasound examination or orders an X-ray. In this way, it is much easier to locate the area where intervention is needed in a timely manner. Taking an X-ray: Imagine trying to capture a clear image of a pet's bones or internal organs while they are moving - no easy task! Anesthesia allows accurate x-rays to be taken, providing an accurate diagnosis without stressing your furry friend. Surgical operations: Whether it's a routine casthration/neuter procedure or a more complex operation, anesthesia ensures that your pet is not traumatized during the process. This not only guarantees his well-being during the operation, but also helps ensure the best result. Teeth cleaning and grooming procedures: Dental hygiene and general care of your pet is very important. Anesthesia becomes necessary for certain grooming procedures, such as brushing teeth, when pets otherwise cannot tolerate the necessary treatment. Coordination of anesthesia The main stage in the treatment of the animal is the preliminary coordination of the animal's anesthesia with the owner. IMPORTANT! According to the legislation of the Republic of Latvia, when planning operations with anesthesia, it is necessary to sign “Consent to anesthesia”. Anesthesia for pets - is not an unimportant stage - together with the pet owner we agree on what type of anesthesia will be used: local or general anesthesia. Owners of four-legged pets are often interested in the question of how long the effects of anesthesia will remain after the operation, how the animal will feel after the operation, and others. The AMI"S team will answer all questions and resolve all concerns. Preparation of the pet for surgery/procedure It must be remembered that on the day of the operation/procedure, the animal cannot be fed, it can only be given to drink. The day before surgery, the animal should be washed with an antiseptic shampoo. A cleansing enema must be performed before certain operations. THE VETERINARY SURGEON NOT ONLY PERFORMS THE SURGERY, BUT ALSO FOLLOWS YOUR PET'S HEALTH DURING THE ENTIRE POST-OPERATIVE RECOVERY PERIOD IF THE PET IS IN A HOSPITAL.
